Why I decided to become a teacher...

In the past summers, I have worked at the Green Shack Drop-In Program. This past summer, 5 children that had recently immigrated from Rwanda showed up at my Park. Since they had only been in Canada for three months so far, they could barely speak English. Through games we were able to communicate with each other. One afternoon we decided we should play basketball. To my surprise they had no idea what basketball was, I couldn't believe it! So my co-worker and I taught them the basic skills and then explained the game of Basketball. Everyday after that afternoon on the court they were out there practicing with each other. It was amazing to see them dribbling down the court like a pro by the end of the summer.

From the blog the Top 100 technology blogs for teachers, I have selected to discuss 1. The Whiteboard Blog and  2. Ed Tech Central.

The Whiteboard Blog gives knowledge to teachers on how to use technologies such as SmartBoards. If you are not familiar with Smartboards, this is the site for you! It begins by explaining the basics: how to use the pen and eraser, selection tool, text, and shapes. Suggestions for lesson plans that include activities with the interactive SmartBoard are available as well. There are also blogs on interactive games that help young children learn.

Ed. Tech Central helps teachers with technology and how it can improve relationships between people. There are how to videos on how to use certain programs, such as Animoto. Animoto can be used for any subject. It can be used to make math fun and interesting or to highlight important information for social. The videos can be easily created and are a great tool for teachers to use in their lessons. On the side bar of the website lists popular topics that may assist you in your teaching.
